Een documentaire over vluchtelingen en hun liederen van thuis.

In deze ingetogen en poëtisch documentaire portretteert Kranenborg vluchtelingen uit verschillende werelddelen op een bijzondere wijze. Ze zingen op indringende wijze liederen die de afstand tot de werelden die ze verlaten verkleind. Liederen vol verlangen en weemoed die naast vertrouwen, troost bieden voor hen zelf en anderen. En soms voor een beetje vrolijkheid zorgen in hun nieuwe maar onzekere bestaan.
De film heeft een heldere structuur en is gefilmd op verschillende plekken in Nederland. De hoofdpersonen zijn afkomstig uit Uygur, Afghanistan, Somalië, Tibet en Armenië.

 

WHAT MY HEART SINGS (2003)

A documentary about refugees and their songs from home.

In this poetic documentary, Kranenborg follows refugees from different parts of the world in a unique way. Through their songs from home they bring the world they left behind closer to their new lives. Songs full of longing and melancholy, offering both recognition and solace for themselves and others. And, sometimes, adding a little joy to the new but uncertain lives.
The film, with its lucid structure, was made at various locations in the Netherlands. The principal persons are from Uygur, Afghanistan, Somalia, Tibet and Armenia.
